BASIC QUALIFICATIONS :


  • Minimum 5 years' experience with operating overhead cab cranes and components


  • Knowledge of crane machining equipment, materials and tooling and requirements according to established procedures.


  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to write and articulate updates to managers, leads and co-workers between shifts.


  • Ability to prioritize tasks and situations and collaborate with the team to meet deadlines.


  • High School Diploma/GED


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :


  • Minimum 7 years' experience with operating overhead cab cranes and components


  • Previous experience with crane operation in a manufacturing, naval, construction or similar setting


PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Operate a variety of overhead cab cranes where normal care is required to protect fabrications and components. Select and attach rigging to safety lift, lower, turn and position equipment, materials and tooling according to established procedures.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Overhead cab cranes, electromagnets, weigh scales, slings, cables, chains, eye bolts, turnbuckles, clamps, hooks, shackles, plate shoes, spreaders, ladders, wrenches, hammer, marlin spike, grease gun, rollers, blocks, padding, safety glasses, gloves, hard hat, etc.

WORKING PROCEDURE:

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE USUAL MAJOR JOB DUTIES BUT THIS DESCRIPTION DOES NOT PRECLUDE THE PERFORMANCE OF OTHER DUTIES BY THE INCUMBENT, NOR THE QUESTION BEING RAISED ON THE PROPER RATE FOR THE ASSIGNMENT.


  1. Receive work assignments from supervision and specific requires from shop personnel.

  2. Read and follow safety regulations, hand signals and work rules such as “Northrop Grumman Safety Rules for the Safe Transportation Loads by cranes, “Safe Work Load Table” and “Safe Loads for Cables and Slings.”

  3. Determine weight of load and select the proper rigging to protect and precisely lift, lower, transport, place, turn and position various loads, assuring safety of the load, personnel and equipment. Work normally consists of large fabrications and components where normal care is required.

  4. Operate cab crane by observing and reading of hand signals of others or direct and guide cab crane operators to properly lift, lower, transport, turn, locate and position various apparatus and equipment assuring the safety of the load, personnel and equipment.

  5. Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean, orderly and safe condition. Maintain preventive maintenance records and report all unsafe conditions to supervision. Check rigging and handling equipment for defects before use and according to schedule.

  6. Maintain in effect certifications for slinging and operating cranes by taking and passing periodic written and operational tests.

  7. Perform work of equal or lower level as required.
