STUDENT POSITION - MUST BE ENROLLED IN A SURG TECH PROGRAM
Provides surgical technology to direct and indirect care and service under the supervision of a surgical technologist. Assists the surgeon and Surgical technologist and performs operative/invasive procedures. Facilitates the daily operations of surgical services by ensuring instruments and related accessories are appropriate to meet department needs. Provides support function to facilitate the daily operations of patient care and department needs

Counts are timely and actions reflect clear understanding of the dual responsibility with circulating RN.
Preparation for surgeon specific operative/invasive procedure that's timely, accurate, effective and efficient.
Sets up sterile field and is scrubbed prior to patient entering the room.
Scrubs on simple to complex procedures for a variety of specialties.
Able to "run mayo" independently.
Is prepared for sequencing, i.e. clamp, cut and tie.
Attentive to case, pays attention to subtle cues and responds appropriately.
Performs in first scrub role independently.
Performs case closing activates such as dressing application, transfer and turnover.
Monitors the sterile field at all times and points out contaminations.
Picks cases, suture, instruments and supplies per surgeon preference cards
Opens sterile supplies without contaminating.
Open instruments sets, verifying that all indicators are sterilized appropriately.
Instrument TechnicianProperly wraps and prepares instrument trays for sterilization.
Wash instrument trays.
Wipe down case carts/run case cart washer.
Load and run sterilizer.
Demonstrates flexibility, speed, and fluidity in response to rapidly changing needs.
Anticipates and meets need to ensure cases are not delayed.
Collaborates with staff to ensure availability of instruments and supplies.
Follows established procedures for care and handling of instruments.
