We're working with a well-respected family owned heavy equipment company that is looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic in the Charleston area. A person that understands the importance of doing a job correctly and is responsible for repairing and maintaining their fleet of earthmoving and pipeline Heavy Equipment on customers job sites. Job Summary: As a Shop Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will play a vital role in ensuring the reliability and performance of our equipment by performing pre-delivery inspections (PDI), warranty and non-warranty repairs, and facilitating the logistics of new machine shipments. You will be responsible for unloading new machines from containers, conducting thorough inspections and repairs, and preparing machines for shipment to customers throughout the US and Canada.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI): Perform comprehensive pre-delivery inspections on new machines to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Warranty and Non-Warranty Repairs: Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on heavy equipment, both under warranty and for non-warranty repairs.
  • Machine Unloading: Safely unload new machines from containers using appropriate equipment and techniques, ensuring the integrity of the equipment and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Machine Loading: Prepare machines for shipment throughout the US and Canada.
  • Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks on equipment in the shop, including oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication, to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of PDI inspections, repairs performed, parts used, and warranty claims, following company procedures and guidelines.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe work practices at all times.
  • Travel: Occasionally travel may be required for on-site repairs at customer locations or for specialized training.
  • Qualifications:
  • Experience: Experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, with a strong background in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams. Experience with diagnostic tools and equipment is preferred.
  • Certifications: Certification from a reputable technical school or equivalent experience in heavy equipment mechanics is highly desirable.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods. Must be able to work in various weather conditions and environments.
  • Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve issues accurately and efficiently.
  • Team Player: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with colleagues and other departments to achieve common goals.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed to meet deadlines and customer demands.
  • Basic Mechanic Tools: Possession of basic mechanic tools is preferred, including wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, and other hand tools commonly used in heavy equipment repair. Specialty tooling will be provided.
